Advice on Finding Cheap Health Insurance

There are millions of people who make too much to qualify for government sponsored health insurance but cannot afford private health insurance premiums. Many in this position feel that the only option is going without health insurance. While this can save money in the short term, the true costs of going without insurance can be devastating. Those who have an accident may find themselves with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills that they cannot pay, or suffering with a chronic condition whose treatments they cannot afford. Cheap insurance, that will cover these costs without straining your budget, can supply both better health and better financial security.

Look for a plan that offers a high deductible. Raising the deductible is the best way to significantly lower the cost of health care coverage. Even with a deductible that is a thousand dollars or more, you will be protected from the astronomical costs that can come with a hospital stay or emergency care.

Find a plan that will cover the costs associated with any preexisting conditions that you have. Some who buy insurance are surprised that their plan will not cover regular care necessary to treat a condition with which they were diagnosed before signing a contract. While companies who do not cover preexisting conditions offer lower premiums, you will end up spending far more in the long run to cover the costs of regular doctor’s bills, medication and other necessities.

Be flexible about switching doctors. Most plans offer big breaks when visiting doctors who are in their network. By opening yourself up to new local doctors, you may be opening yourself up to bigger savings. When you are requesting an insurance quote, be sure to ask for a list of all participating doctors in your area. This will give you an idea of the options that you will have if you do decide to enroll.

There are cheap health insurance options for those who are willing to look. By shopping around and taking advantage of offers of free quotes, you and your family can be insured in just a few short weeks.
